The Monterey Institute of International Studies has gained national recognition for the quality of its academic offerings with its translation and interpretation programs.

ALTA Language Services - a major employer of translation and interpretation professionals in the United States - named the Institute's translation and interpretation program as one of the top five graduate programs in the nation, citing its "close-knit, globally focused community" and praising the Institute's emphasis on language and cultural proficiency in addition to translation skills.

The ranking process included reviews of four related degrees offered by the Institute's Graduate School of Translation, Interpretation and Language Education (GSTILE): the M.A. in Translation, the M.A. in Translation and Localization Management, the M.A. in Translation and Interpretation, and the M.A. in Conference Interpretation.
